So, I guess I'm blogging now. Weird.
Tonya, from Tonya's Treats for Teachers, has done a great job helping me and our friend Carla get started by teaching us some of the tricks of the trade. Here we are geeking out on our computers discussing ideas after dinner and hanging out.
I have had SO many questions about how to make things, get graphics centered (still working on that one, eek!), and make things look the way I want them to look. Basically, google and I have become BFFs. I still can't figure out how to get text on my header, so let's just call this blog a work in progress. Also, I have a newfound respect for all you other teacher-bloggers. Your blogs look so amazing!
Tonya told me I should link up with folks through Linky Parties...to which I asked, "What the heck is a Linky Party?!" But they sound fun, so if I can get that figured out, maybe I'll connect with more of you soon.
In the meantime, let me know your tips & tricks for a new blogger in the comments! So far, I have just set up my blog and put up two items in my Teachers Pay Teachers store. Feel free to check them out. Both are free, and we all love free!
Great first entry. I can't wait to see how this blog and your materials on teachers pay teachers evolves. I'm glad you are now part of the blog-sphere! Go virtual or go home! And, I think everyone desires an extra minute for lunch!
ReplyDeleteEEKKKK...so glad to see you here! I just LOVE your name! You know where to find me if you need ANYTHING girl!

Tonya’s Treats for Teachers
Welcome to your new addiction! My tip is to read every blog you can get your hands on. And try to post for a couple on linky parties like Farley's Currently. You can find some neat blogs and create some traffic to your blog.
ReplyDeleteGreat name! Following you now:)

My Teacher Friend
Such a cute name and background! I love melonheadz or 3AM Teacher for clipart (they usually offer some great freebies), and Kimberly Geswein for fonts. Ladybug's Teacher Files also has some GREAT blogger tutorials. Good Luck!

Check out her shop and she has quite a few items. I love Scrappin Doodles clipart and Ashley Hughes!!
Advice- Go out and follow other blogs and comment on their blog posts, leaving a link back to your blog so they can visit you. That's a great way to get more followers, but more importantly, to learn from others! And, linky parties are huge!! :O)

Collaboration Cuties
Hello! Welcome to the blogging world! I just found your blog through Tonya's blog. Love your layout. As with the other above comments, I also buy clip art from Scrappin' Dooodles, Ashley Hughes, or Ginger Snaps. There's tons of it!

Hi! I found you through one of my favorite bloggers, Tonya! You are sure in goods hands with her as your helper:) I love the clipart mentioned above and also love kpmdoodles.com.
ReplyDeleteOne piece of advice I have is to comment on other blogs as often as you can. It only takes seconds and you never know how you can brighten someone's day with a little comment. It helps build great relationships with other bloggers too!

Welcome to the blogging world. I'm super new at this, so I don't have much advice to share, other than I agree, that comments are a great way to meet bloggers and make it feel like someone is actually listening to your rambles!
ReplyDeleteI also like Melonheadz clipart!
Looking From Third to Fourth
I am follower #12!!! Your blog looks great and I absolutely love your name. It's so true. Can't wait to hear your ideas. I'm off to check out your TPT.
ReplyDeletelfielder@fortsmithschools.org
I forgot to add that I have found some amazing clipart by going to TPT and just searching for free clipart.
ReplyDeleteWelcome, welcome , welcome friend!!! So happy you joined us in blogland! :) I'm looking forward to reading about your journey! :)
ReplyDeleteI still feel pretty new to blogging, but I love fonts from Jen Jones at Hello Literacy. She has great FREE fonts. Also... Rowdy in Room 300 has some FREE fonts that are super cute! :)
I usually just get on TPT or Pinterest and search free frames and borders.
Tips.... change your profile so you are not a no-reply commenter... and take off the "type this in to prove you're a person".

Welcome to the blogging world!! My tips would be to link up with Manic Monday at Classroomfreebies.com and to link up with Farley at the beginning of each month. It is a great way to get traffic and to also see lots of blogs in one place.
ReplyDeleteHere is a clipart seller on TpT who is up and coming!

And I have some fonts that have a super easy commercial license included. http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Super-Cute-Fonts-with-commercial-license

Found my way here via Tonya. I don't know how you bloggers do it...and I mean both technology-wise and time-wise! More power to you! Ditto the above comment to look for free clip art on TPT; you can find some great things to get you started!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your new adventure...and what an adventure it will be! Tonya was a big help to me in the beginning as well. I LOVE clip art from Scrappindoodles, Ashley Hughes, Melonheadz, and Krista Wallden. You can also go on Etsy and get some great stuff (sometimes on sale when you favorite their shop) from KPM Doodles and Moo&Puppy for backgrounds. Best wishes and happy creating!

Welcome to blogging!!! I would say definitely take your time, and I try not to keep up with anyone else, because then I start worrying too much!! Participate in linkys and giveaways, and enjoy the ride. A great link to start out with is Farley's Currently linky, she does them every month. Here's the link the to latest one: http://ohboy3rdgrade.blogspot.com/2013/02/currently-february.html

Thank you all for the amazing tips and resources! I am already learning SO much! I appreciate all of your help!
ReplyDeleteTwenty-Six Minutes for Lunch
Hmmm. My biggest tip would be to set a goal for posting (once a week, once a month, every other day) and stick to it. I started last summer and fell off the boat quickly. I will be starting up again. I just found my time getting away from me.
ReplyDeleteGood luck in your journey!
P.S. I'm very successful following blogs when the "follow by email" feature is enabled. I don't visit my Google Reader very often... :)
ReplyDeleteGreat advice! I just added that option. :)
DeleteIt's a slippery slope. I am always thinking how I can turn something into a post! Take lots of pictures of activities you do in case you need them to illustrate your posts! Caitlin (www.The-Room-Mom.com)
